Just get a deep cycle battery for marine use.

Nancy asks…

Do you need a battery box for your boat?

We are buying a canoe which has a flat stern so we could attach a trolling motor but has no special place to set the battery except directly on the canoe. Do we need to keep the battery in a box? I saw these for sell but no description was given as to whether they were necessary or not.

Staff – Customer Service answers:

You can use a box, a tray or battery straps, but whatever you choose you need to make sure it is secured to the canoe in case you tip the battery does not go overboard. The box keeps anything that may fall from hitting the battery and if it is metallic from shorting out between the battery posts.

Chris asks…

How to hook up a 12 volt?

Ok basic question but here is the situation. I have a marine battery im using to power a trolling motor. The battery comes with a box. So I put the battery in the box and hook it up positive to negitive red to black.. right? Then the box output to the motor.. Red to black? Also When I take the battery out to charge it isnt it reverse for charging? I always mix it up. And when removing the chords, how can I be safe not to be shocked and what not?
To yipyap- So there is no time that black would go to red. Its just the order in which you hook them up correct? Charging black must go first. What about when unhooking after using and after charging is there an order?

Staff – Customer Service answers:

The positive (red) leads) go to the positive + battery terminal, the negative – (black) leads go to the negative or ground terminal on the battery. When installing the battery hook up the ground last, when removing take off the ground first. This keeps you from getting shocked or worse.
