Faq And Reviews – About Two Blade Propellers

John asks…

I’m building a swampboat with wheels. Where can I find a used two,or three blade airplane propeller?

I know it sounds a little nuts, but it’s on my to-do list before I die.
(I just turned 50). And I know it can be built to be relatively safe.

Ok heres what you do… They make one now,and heres how you can get parts there is like a hang glider that has the rear caged prop, the buggy and on wheels… All they do is attach the cloth to the top for the wings and off they go,,,

the thing can run on the ground with out the wings. But are you
planning to wheels on a boat permantley and still use it in the water? Or drive it on dry land.. The wheels might help load it on a trailer but skimming across water at high speeds with the prop woud be very dangerous with the tires lowered in the water as it could turn over easy if only the tires on the right hit land and the left is in the water.. Now if there was a way they could retract you could hit high speeds, that is why you see these duckmobiles and those floating cars, they dont move very fast in the water,,, Very interesting concept, but you can sometimes find wooden props and other accessories under the aircraft section on ebay, there hundreds of part from a cessna to a 747…

Im really interested in your concept just dont know if your looking to use it on land or water… But i wish you the best of luck with this…..

Why does the AH-64 Apache helicopter have wheels and four blades/propellers?

While the SuperCobra does not, and has only two blades/propellers?

Staff – Customer Service answers:

The Apache is a much larger aircraft with more weapons payload. The four rotor blades provide for two necessary functions. More lift and quiter opertation. The wheels allow them to gain speed on a take off roll down a runway which conserves fuel on take off. Cobras are used by the Marines and are sometimes launched from amphibious ships. They are more narrow than the apaches and the landing skids versus wheels saves on space. Older cobras have a 2 blade main rotor and are quite noisy and a very distinctive sound. New cobras are being built with a 4 bladed main rotor . Cuts down on noise and creates better lift. Cobras are also gaining better and heavier weapons capabilities over older models to meet new battlefield requirements, so the 4 bladed rotors are a must.

Ruth asks…

Which provides the best thrust on an aircraft?

Assume for a moment that there are three single-engine aircraft. Each is the same make and model, and each have the same engine. In fact, the only difference is the propeller.

Aircraft A has a large two-blade propeller. Aircraft B has a smaller 4-blade propeller. Aircraft C has a pair of small, counter-rotating 3-blade propellers, mounted in-line with each other.

Which aircraft is going to have the most thrust, and which aircraft is going to have the highest top speed? Why?

Staff – Customer Service answers:

As above, not enough info.

As long as the 2 blade tip did not exceed mach 1, it would be best.
If it did, then the 4 blade would be better.

Inline loses some efficiency because of the turbulence of the air.
